Come on Adobe!
Encountering the error message "Selected font failed during last operation" in Adobe applications has been a persistent challenge, notably after Adobe's discontinuation of PostScript Type 1 font support in January 2023. [LINK]
This disruption, especially affecting Photoshop, prompts a closer look at potential solutions.
"Official" Fix for Photoshop
Adobe recommends deleting the CT Font Cache folder as a potential remedy.
After closing all Adobe applications, users can find this folder in / Users / %UserProfile%(You) > Library > Application Support > Adobe > Adobe Photoshop. Drag the folder to your desktop and relaunch Photoshop. You can delete the folder later once completed all the processes. However, we’re afraid that our experience suggests this solution may not be foolproof.
An Additional Step
After attempting Adobe's official solution without success, an alternative approach involved disabling and re-enabling Adobe fonts via Adobe Creative Cloud. By accessing the font icon in the top-right corner on Adobe Creative Cloud and navigating to "Active fonts" and "Previously active," users can toggle fonts to resolve the issue.
Scarier Version
For some, the font problem extended beyond Photoshop to the entire Adobe suite. Deleting all font-related caches in the Cache folder and associated files in the Application Support folder became a drastic yet effective measure.
A hard warning here: This method resets user settings including workspace, brushes, and actions, so thorough backup is crucial before attempting.
Parting Thought
While users following Adobe's guidelines may not anticipate such issues, the reality often leads to unexpected frustrations. Effectively managing font-related disruptions demands a strategic approach to minimize workflow interruptions.
Here's a hoping for a future where Adobe users encounter fewer such issues.
